Chess Class with Two Thumbs Up

Two Thumbs Up is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization based in Atlanta, Georgia that is dedicated to providing meaningful social opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum. By collaborating with local businesses and same-age volunteers, they promote activities that are physical and emotionally regulating while enabling social support and connection. They want their youth and young adults to be able to engage in fun activities and expand their potential in a loving and supportive environment.

Volunteers are needed to participate in a variety of social activities and events along-side (virtually today) these youth and young adults served by Two Thumbs Up. Because of COVID19, all events are currently being held via Zoom.

What volunteers will be doing:
Volunteers will participate in a short chess lesson with International Chess Master Carlos Perdomo. then you will each play him simultaneously on chess.com app. Pebble Tossers volunteers will be participating with the youth and young adults from Two Thumbs Up.

Chess Atlanta was founded in 2003 by Carlos Perdomo, International Chess Master. Coach Carlos founded Chess Atlanta to increase the chess presence in the metro Atlanta area, provide more young students the opportunity to learn in a chess club environment, and to help foster good sportsmanship among the growing number of young chess players.

In the first 15 minutes of the session, you will participate in an Ice Breaker activity that is meant to allow you to get to know each other in a fun way.

Ideally, volunteers should be between 11 - 22 years of age. Yes, by playing chess with Two Thumbs Up, you are actually volunteering and providing a social connection to other youth and young adults.

Dance Class on Zoom

About this event: Zoom Dance Class - the theme for Jan. 3rd is 80s pop and Feb 7 is Jazz. Jahmir will lead the class and he is a therapist and dance instructor. His passion is working with kids and teens. Jahmirs pure energy and enthusiasm shine through when he teaches dance and he makes it SO MUCH FUN.

Volunteers will participate in a virtual dance class with youth and young adults from Two Thumbs Up. In the first few minutes of the session, you will participate in an Ice Breaker activity that is meant to allow you to get to know each other in a fun way. Then you will have fun dancing. Ideally, volunteers should be between 12 - 23 years of age. Yes, by dancing with Two Thumbs Up, you are actually volunteering and providing a social connection to other youth and young adults.

Once you have registered, Two Thumbs Up will email you a welcome video and the Zoom link to participate.

Meditation with Two Thumbs Up

About this event: Join Holistic Psychotherapist, Michelle Shlafman for an afternoon of calm, relaxation and gaining tools to tune into our bodies. All ages are welcome

Then you will participate in the meditation session. Yes, by meditating with Two Thumbs Up, you are actually volunteering and providing a social connection to other youth and young adults.
