Cooking Class and Life Skills

Two Thumbs Up is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization based in Atlanta, Georgia that is dedicated to providing meaningful social opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum. By collaborating with local businesses and same-age volunteers, they promote activities that are physical and emotionally regulating while enabling social support and connection. They want their youth and young adults to be able to engage in fun activities and expand their potential in a loving and supportive environment.

Volunteers are needed to participate in a variety of social activities and events along-side (virtually today) these youth and young adults served by Two Thumbs Up. Because of COVID19, all events are currently being held via Zoom.

What volunteers will be doing:
Maria Torres is an occupational therapy assistant that will be guiding us through a cooking class. A small group of 2-4 students with Two Thumbs Up will be invited to meet in person at ITTS for Children.

Volunteers will participate in a virtual cooking class with youth and young adults from Two Thumbs Up. In the first 15 minutes of the session, you will participate in an Ice Breaker activity that is meant to allow you to get to know each other in a fun way. Then you will have fun cooking. Ideally, volunteers should be between 12 - 23 years of age. Yes, by cooking with Two Thumbs Up, you are actually volunteering and providing a social connection to other youth and young adults.

Once you have registered, we will send your name and email to Two Thumbs Up. You will receive details on how to participate and the Zoom link from Two Thumbs Up.

Music Therapy

What volunteers will be doing:
Volunteers will participate in a virtual Music Therapy class along with the youth and young adults from Two Thumbs Up.

The class will be led by Miquel Shanine from Heart Song, LLC. As Miquel says, "it is the voice you hear inside... who you truly are". Miquel strives to help each individual listen to and discover the song of his or her own heart and learn about all of the wonderful components of his or her unique melody.

In the first 15 minutes of the session, you will participate in an Ice Breaker activity that is meant to allow you to get to know each other in a fun way. Then you will have fun with the music class.

Ideally, volunteers should be between 12 - 23 years of age. Yes, by taking the music class with Two Thumbs Up, you are actually volunteering and providing a social connection to other youth and young adults.

Tai Chi Class

They want their youth and young adults to be able to engage in fun activities and expand their potential in a loving and supportive environment.

Volunteers are needed to participate in a variety of social activities and events along-side (virtually today) these youth and young adults served by Two Thumbs Up. Because of COVID19, all events are currently being held via Zoom.

What volunteers will be doing:
Volunteers will participate in a virtual Tai Chi class along with the youth and young adults from Two Thumbs Up.

For this class, you will only need a yoga mat and comfortable clothes. This class is for all levels of experience.

In the first 15 minutes of the session, you will participate in an Ice Breaker activity that is meant to allow you to get to know each other in a fun way. Then you will have fun with the Tai Chi class.

Ideally, volunteers should be between 12 - 23 years of age. Yes, by taking the Tai Chi class with Two Thumbs Up, you are actually volunteering and providing a social connection to other youth and young adults.
