Create Paper Doves of Hope

Pebble Tossers and the Spruill Center for the Arts are teaming up on a joint project to make Origami Doves of Hope. Our goal is to make and then install 2021 doves in the entryway of the Spruill Center for the Arts. The inspiration for our project comes from German artist Michael Pendry. Just before Christmas, he installed the Les Colombes exhibit: a winding column of more than 2,000 origami paper doves in the grand nave of Washington National Cathedral. Symbolizing hope and the Holy Spirit, the doves encourage a feeling of optimism as we end a challenging 2020 and begin a new year according to the artist.

How to participate: This is open to NonPebble Tossers Members.
1. Make your white paper doves from home and follow the instructions found here or click here for an instructional video. You can do this any day in January as long as they are delivered by Jan. 29.

2. Before you fold them, in the center of the paper, write an inspirational note or a message of hope for 2021.

3. Drop off your white paper doves by Jan. 29 at the Spruill Center for the Arts in one of the collection bins as you enter the building.
